According to Amou Haji, an 80-year-old Iranian man who lives in isolation in Dejgah village, cleanliness makes him sick. The thought of taking a bath makes him angry, he says. For this reason, he has avoided bathing for the last 60 years. He smokes animal droppings and sometimes multiple cigarettes at one time. For food, he eats the rotting flesh of dead porcupines. Concerned locals have built him a small shack to sleep in and have offered him showers but he usually prefers to sleep in a hole in the ground and refuses to shower.
Though he says he adopted this lifestyle due to emotional setbacks in his youth, at this point, we can say that Amou Haji prefers to live as one with the earth.
